The Trans Nzoia Water and Sewerage Company (TRANSWASCO) convened a critical meeting with the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) and the contractor of the Kitale-Suam highway to address the persistent issue of water pipe vandalism along the route. The vandalism has led to frequent disconnections, impacting the water supply for residents in Matis and Lessos due to pipe breakages.
The meeting, led by TRANSWASCO’s Acting Manager Lucy Njeri, aimed to find effective solutions to mitigate the recurring damage to water infrastructure. During the discussions, the contractor, represented by Li Guong Lei, pledged to repair the damaged pipes promptly and committed to taking greater care to prevent future breakages. They assured TRANSWASCO and the residents that measures would be implemented to handle water lines with increased caution, thereby improving water supply reliability in the affected areas.
Dickson Opiyo from the Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency and KENHA’s resident engineer were also in attendance, underscoring the importance of collaboration among key stakeholders to resolve this ongoing challenge. The joint efforts are expected to improve water supply efficiency and reduce disruptions caused by vandalism along the Kitale-Suam road.
